{"id":139,"date":"2018-05-22T18:50:09","date_gmt":"2018-05-22T18:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dabbler.dk\/?p=139"},"modified":"2019-06-09T14:26:39","modified_gmt":"2019-06-09T14:26:39","slug":"sql-server-does-not-exist-or-access-denied-using-windows-10-build-1803","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dabbler.dk\/index.php\/2018\/05\/22\/sql-server-does-not-exist-or-access-denied-using-windows-10-build-1803\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;SQL Server does not exist or access denied&#8221; using Windows 10, build 1803"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are running your Microsoft Dynamics C5 or Microsoft Concorde XAL program files off a SMB1.x share, and your client is running Microsoft Windows 10, your C5\/XAL might stop working if you upgrade your Windows 10 to build 1803.<\/p>\n<p>This is really a &#8220;far out&#8221; bug, in build 1803 Microsoft apparently strengthened some security which makes it impossible to connect to a SQL Server through ODBC if &#8211; and only if &#8211; your program files are stored on a file sharing running SMB1.x (which means it will actually work if you copy your program files to a local drive &#8211; but that will off cause break things &#8211; some C5 and XAL files needs to be shared!).<\/p>\n<p>And now we&#8217;re at it &#8211; this is not only hitting C5 and XAL, but other systems using ODBC as well:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?source=hp&amp;ei=zfH6WqasBorGwQKImqroDw&amp;q=sql+connection+problem+after+windows+update+1803&amp;oq=sql+connection+problem+after+windows+update+1803\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?source=hp&amp;ei=zfH6WqasBorGwQKImqroDw&amp;q=sql+connection+problem+after+windows+update+1803&amp;oq=sql+connection+problem+after+windows+update+1803<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The solution is straight forward: make your file share run SMB2.0 or newer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows Server 2003R2 and older: You are out of luck (and by the way: you are also out of Microsoft support). Upgrade your file server now!!<\/li>\n<li>Windows Server 2008 and 2008R2: I&#8217;ve not tried it &#8211; but you should be able to enable it on the server:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-ie\/help\/2696547\/how-to-detect-enable-and-disable-smbv1-smbv2-and-smbv3-in-windows-and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-ie\/help\/2696547\/how-to-detect-enable-and-disable-smbv1-smbv2-and-smbv3-in-windows-and<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Windows Server 2012 and 2012R2 or newer: SMB2.0+ is on by default.
